About the weather in Aoraki/Mount Cook

The weather in Aoraki/Mount Cook can be incredibly unpredictable, although many argue that the slightly erratic weather conditions just add to the region’s charm!

We have four webcams installed at the Hermitage, each positioned with different viewpoints, so our guests and those looking to visit Mount Cook Village can check in and see whether it’s currently sunny, rainy, cloudy, or even snowing in the National Park. Please note that the weather can turn quickly and that it’s not unusual for us to experience four different seasons in a day!

If you’d like to keep up to date with the weather in preparation for an upcoming trip, we recommend you check in on Met Service – New Zealand’s official national weather authority. Met Service will provide you with the most accurate weather forecasts and observations available.

If you are driving to us, we also recommend you visit the New Zealand Transport Agency website, for all updates regarding road closures, incidents, and roadworks. For those visiting from the South, you can also view the Lindis Pass webcam here.

We hope our webcams and these links help you plan your next adventure to the Hermitage, Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.
